Manama, Jul. 25 (BNA): His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa marked the International Day for the Conservation of the Mangrove Ecosystem, observed on July 26, noting that the Kingdom of Bahrain continues its efforts to enhance environmental security, preserve natural resources, and strengthen the foundations of sustainable development.
His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Salman affirmed that the Kingdom of Bahrain’s achievements in environmental conservation, under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, reflect Bahrain’s progress in environmental sustainability, which has become a cornerstone of its comprehensive development. His Highness noted that this approach has strengthened the Kingdom’s ability to convert strategic objectives into national achievements and milestones.
His Highness commended the support and patronage of Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, Consort of His Majesty the King, President of the Supreme Council for Women (SCW), and Chair of the Advisory Council of the National Initiative for Agricultural Sector Development, for agricultural and environmental initiatives. His Highness noted that Her Royal Highness’ directives serve as a key driver behind advancing sustainability, raising environmental awareness, and supporting national initiatives aimed at expanding vegetation and conserving natural resources, further reinforcing Bahrain’s environmental achievements.
HH Shaikh Mohammed bin Salman also highlighted the efforts of His Highness Shaikh Abdulla bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Personal Representative of His Majesty the King and President of the Supreme Council for Environment, in overseeing the Kingdom’s environmental agenda.
His Highness commended HH Shaikh Abdulla’s commitment to advancing Bahrain’s environmental efforts through the implementation of initiatives and programmes that promote national coordination, strengthen environmental sustainability and preserve natural resources, all of which support the Kingdom’s continued environmental progress.
His Highness noted that the Bahrain Mangroves Initiative represents an advanced national model for transforming strategic visions into sustainable achievements through the combined efforts of government entities, the private sector, civil society organisations, and volunteers, highlighting how these partnerships enabled Bahrain to surpass its national mangrove planting target well ahead of the 2035 deadline, reflecting the efficiency of implementation and the capabilities of the Kingdom’s national workforce.
HH Shaikh Mohammed bin Salman noted that these achievements contribute to Bahrain’s climate commitments, particularly its goal of reaching net-zero emissions by 2060, by strengthening nature-based solutions and enhancing the capacity of ecosystems to sequester carbon, thereby supporting the Sustainable Development Goals and reinforcing environmental sustainability.
His Highness affirmed that the progress achieved, particularly through the National Afforestation Plan and the Bahrain Mangroves Initiative, is an important milestone in Bahrain’s environmental efforts, promoting nature-based solutions, strengthening climate adaptation efforts, and fostering a national culture of environmental responsibility.
His Highness outlined that these efforts further enhance Bahrain’s international standing in environmental conservation, support its commitment to achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2060, and reflect the Kingdom’s vision of building a more sustainable and prosperous future for generations to come.
